The premise of Project 3 was to design and fabricate a method to properly dispose of different types of waste in their corresponding bins. Two teams, the modelling and computing sub-teams, worked together to facilitate the process. As a part of the coding sub-team, I used Python to code the Q-arm to load a randomized recyclable container onto a Q-bot individually. Three conditions needed to be met before loading the container:
The process began with writing out a flowchart, shown below in Figure 1, which guided the coding team on what they must accomplish. Then, using a colour sensor to detect the desired bin and a line following sensor, the Q-bot was coded to take each recycled container to its appropriate recycling bin, dispose of it, and return home to continue the cycle with the other containers. The coding sub-team made continuous edits to the code throughout several Design Studious and on their own time to perfect at least two cycles of this recycling system process. In addition, they coded an actual Q-bot to travel around a track and lift the hopper to dispose of recycled trash.
It was important to curate a Gantt Chart during the planning process of the project to organize and strategize how the work will be divided and completed. Each milestone was an imperative building block to reach the final products. The milestones were also divided between the Modelling sum - team and the Coding sub - team. My focus was on Coding, therefore, I will be showcasing my contributions to each milestone.
