This project consists of two parts. The first part is to design a sterilizing container with constraints and a given footprint measurement for a specifically assigned tool. The second part is to code the Q-arm to move the container from point A and either on-top or into the autoclave with minimal movement. I was part of the Modelling sub-team, so I will share my contributions.
When constructing the container, the model design had too have walls with a minimum thickness of four millimetre. This is to ensure strength and stiffness. The holes pierced throughout the walls of the container were to ensure ease when sterilizing the container in the autoclave. The design met the size and dimensions of the bone saw tool (our team’s assigned tool) so that it fits securely without slipping out. This is because of the shape (a rectangle with a triangular wedge), as well as the highly built walls. The container also had large spaces and cut-outs in the walls to minimize material usage and to shrink printing time.
It was important to curate a Gantt Chart during the planning process of the project to organize and strategize how the work will be divided and completed. Each milestone was an imperative building block to reach the final products. The milestones were also divided between the Modelling sum - team and the Coding sub - team. My focus was on Modelling, therefore, I will be showcasing my contributions to each milestone.
As a part of the modelling team, we first began be designing two separate containers with different properties to examine and compare. Our given tool was a bone saw.
